eBay Jacks Up Rates, Puts the Squeeze on Collectors Feb 2008
Most, if not all collectors, do a fair amount of
buying and selling on eBay. This being the case, we would like to voice our
opinion regarding eBay's "seller pricing changes". These pricing "changes"
result in a significant increase in eBay fees. In fact eBay has NEARLY
DOUBLED the basic final valuation fee from 5.25% to a whopping 8.75%! eBay,
of course, has been focusing on a negligible decrease in listing fees and
gallery pictures, all the while trying to gloss over the huge fee increases
these changes represent. The minor decreases do not come close to offsetting
the final valuation fee increases. To make these fee increases a little
easier on large volume sellers, eBay is offering them some small relief in the
form of minor fee discounts if they maintain high ratings. No such discounts
will be available for small volume sellers no matter how good their ratings
may be. All over the web there has been outcry over these rate hikes, with
petitions and protests popping up on newsgroups. Let us remember that eBay is
a monopoly, or at least a virtual one. The only thing they will understand is
decreased profits, which can only result from a decrease in buyer and seller
activity.
I am not advocating a boycott of eBay. I am a collector first and foremost, and eBay has been a significant resource in acquiring many key pieces in my collection (especially since they have put virtually every major toy show out of business). I just want to encourage collectors to pursue other avenues as much as possible. We need more direct dealing collector to collector. There are newsgroups, chat rooms, email lists and websites where collectors can buy, sell and even trade without eBay's hand in their pocket. The new pricing policy goes into effect on February 20th. If you want to see the full effect of these radical price increase just follow the link below. While the top of the page glorifies their minor fee decreases, scroll down to the bottom of the page to see where eBay is really turning the screws. Welcome 2008: Captain Action Rarities Dec 2007

Kevin Stark, Curator of the museum was quoted as follows: “A committee of toy industry professionals, toy collecting fans, and board members from the museum considered a list of several candidates for this year’s induction. Among them, the original Star Wars Line, the original He-man line, and Transformers. We are proud that Captain Action was added to the Hall of Fame that already includes the original 12 inch GI Joes and the first Spawn line from Todd McFarlane. Captain Action epitomizes what the Hall of Fame is all about. It’s a toy line that captured the imagination of kids and collectors alike. With a well designed concept, the Captain Action line kept kids in the late 60s entertained for hours, and it is a sought after collectible today.” The Action figure Museum is located in Pauls Valley, OK. You can learn more on their website at www.actionfiguremuseum.com Read more about the induction at the Action Figure Insider Making the Grade Sep 2006 It was just a matter of time. What CGC has done for comics, the Toy Grader wants to do for toys. There are three categories: The Action Figure Authority, The Collectible Doll Authority and the Die Cast Authority. The grading scale goes from 10 (Very Poor) to 100 (Gem Mint in package). Like the CGC, the grading processes includes encapsulation. Prices vary with the size and value of the submission. You can find more info on their site at www.toygrader.com. Help Bring Back Captain Action! Jun 2006 CAMPAIGN TO URGE DC DIRECT TO REISSUE CAPTAIN ACTION! Rumors have been reported that DC Direct is considering reissuing Captain Action on both the Action Figure Insider and DC Direct Message boards. This idea has actually been directly presented to DC Direct and they have taken notice of all the chatter. They recently responded that they are reluctant to go ahead with Captain Action because of the 13- inch line they are currently putting out ,as they feel they would be competing with themselves to a certain degree. However, they did leave the door open by saying that if enough interest continued, they may reconsider. So, to all you Captain Action fans out there - please take a moment to post on the DC Direct Message boards or use the Ask DC Direct link to write directly to urge them to bring back our hero!
