Once again, Wes has updated his site and added some more cool stuff to his line.  The latest offering in the repro costume realm is a sharp looking replica of the hard to find Action Boy space suit.  No longer will you have to settle for one with extensive silver loss or  holes in inappropriate places.  His ever popular Adam West Batman figure graces the front of his updated website.   Gloves, capes costumes and more, all at Classic Plastick.

See The Zeroids Come to Life at Planet Zeroid  Sep 2003
PlanetZeroid.com has created a DVD entitled "Episode One: Return to Planet Zero" in which 3D rendered Zeroids come to life.  Animated versions of Zerak, Zobor, Zintar and Zogg glide across the landscape with their antenna spinning and lights flashing, backed with ethereal music.  The Demo DVD, which we had a chance to view, contains a preview of the upcoming movie and two music videos featuring the Zeroids.  The Zeroids look great, they did an amazing job capturing all the subtleties of each robots design.  While the animated versions are far more graceful and less robotic in their movements than their 20th century counterparts, they maintain true to the Zeroids of our youth, assembling a Sensor Station and operating a Missile Defense Pad.  Their website contains other previews including interactive shockwave versions of each of the Zeroids.  Just follow this link:

This years Comic Con featured some real standouts by some of our favorite companies.  Hasbro has retooled their timeless GI Joe series and has some great releases planned for this month, and there were some some other fine limited editions from Dreams & Visions.  Our friends at Playing Mantis have shown that their ability to innovate hasn't slowed down with their latest foray into Marvel Super Hero tie-ins, and Topps had on display some original art from their vaults.  We have the scoop along with a ton of pictures that will make you feel like you were there.  Check out the link below for the full story:

Kid Action As Speed Racer!  July 2003
Back when the last millennium was drawing to a close the Playing Mantis Captain Action revival was in full swing.  The biggest and most highly anticipated addition to the line was Action Boy (renamed "Kid Action") bringing the promise of a completely new series of uniforms and accessories designed to take the line into new directions.  At the Chicago Toy Expo of  '99 Kid Action was displayed along with a mock up of his first uniform set 'Speed Racer'!

Alas, Speed was never to make it to the hands of anxious collectors.  We were left wondering, whatever happened to Speed Racer?  How far did Playing Mantis get in the creation of this set?  Now the complete story behind Kid Action's Speed Racer has been uncovered and is being presented for the first time, complete with never before seen photos and pre production drawings.

When you click the link below be patient since the page may take a while to load.

Games & Beyond want to extend a big THANK YOU to Joe G for this terrific article and Bob Plant of Playing Mantis for all the great info and pictures.  Great job guys!

Big Things are Afoot, Plus Dr Evil Sanctuary on Ebay  23 Apr 03
Well we have conquered our server problems, straightened up everything with Verisign, and we are back in business.  In the hiatus we have been working on two important articles which will be debuting in May.  In the mean time, up on Ebay right now is the ultra rare Dr Evil Sanctuary.  In actuality it doesn't say "Dr Evil" anywhere on it, but the pre-production literature portrayed it as such and for collectors the name has stuck.  It is the rarest of the vinyl cases made for Captain Action, adorned with pictures of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Captain America and Spider-man.  It is nearly 18" high in the form of a cone with a vacuform rock base and a cool swivel chair inside.  This version has the blue plastic on top and the yellow on the base.  Only the Third one we have ever seen on Ebay, Certainly worth a look, and if your pocket book can handle it, a bid:

Some Things for the New Year  8 Jan 03
Yes the book is in and at first blush it looks like everything we were expecting, so as we complete our review don't hesitate to head out to your local Diamond Comics distributor and grab a copy for yourself.  In the mean time we have noticed that Target is having a clearance on the NYPD and NYFD figures and they can be had in pairs for $14.98.  A pretty cool price for a figure that sports hands which are dead on replicas of Captain Action's (although molded in a different material)  If you can get them out of their sockets you would have a real winner.
