Leap Year Correction  29 Feb 00
Once every four years we get an extra day, and we decided to use ours fixing the error we made in yesterday's review of the custom Captain Action gloves.  We initially mistook the shorter style gloves for Action Boys (which would explain wny they looked a little big).  We have updated the page and it should be correct now.  Sorry about that!  Check it out: Captain Action Gloves

All You Need Are Gloves  28 Feb 00
A few weeks ago we came across Classic Plastick, a site that specializes in custom Captain Action accessories, including gloves.  Well, we finally got our hands onto (and the Captain's hands into) a pair and we thought we would share our findings with you.  So we put together a review complete with plenty of pics and added it to the reviews section, but you can get there quicker with this link: Captain Action Gloves

Captain Terror and Racer X, or Gwen has the last word  28 Feb 00
In our last installment from Playing Mantis it seems that Gwen left a little something out:

Captain Terror and Racer X will be out with the Speed Racer costume in August, and we (Playing Mantis) are going with the two part mask for Green Hornet and Kato. We should have some pictures pretty soon, so as soon as we do, we'll get them posted.

Repair, Revise, Revamp, Renew  27 Feb 00
More updates here at Games and Beyond.  We have added the Superman Uniform and Equipment set, and are redoing that entire section.  The costumes main page now has pics of all 13 Captain Action costume sets, and a new look here.  You can also get there from the Captain Action icon.  If you can recognise the reference above you win our boobie prize.  That was a hint, by the way.

Captain Action, Johnny Quest, and More Good Stuff  27 Feb 00
Playing Mantis has posted the final installment in their four part series on the history of Captain Action, heres a quick link: Captain Action Part 4.  They have also announced that the name of their new line of action figures, including the Johnny Quest and Action Jackson figures will be collectively known as Hyper Action.  Speaking of Johnny Quest, there now is an official release statement.  And last, but by no means least, they have a very cool interview with the author of the upcoming book "Captain Action, the original super hero action figure" Michael Eury.

Updates from PM on Lone Ranger, Kid Action, Green Hornet, More  25 Feb 00
Gwen at Playing Mantis has given this update on the new Captain Action releases:

The Blue Lone Ranger and Kid Action are in the country and should be showing up in the stores very soon. I will give you the advance warning so you can prepare yourselves that there's a little problem with the Lone Ranger costume. The way it
got  packaged in Hong Kong, the collar is flipped up on his shirt. I'm afraid they're all like this. There's nothing wrong with the shirt, and if  you take it out and put it on CA, it looks great, but it's kind of funky in the box. Believe me, no one is happy about it, and we're very sorry. We're always working on quality control, and our point person is aware of the error and very apologetic. Other than the collar thing, it's great. Kid Action is just fine! The panther is smaller than I would have thought, but Bob says it's a direct repro, so what do I know. Maybe Kid Action is 7 feet tall or something. . .

Now, Green Hornet and Kato look like they might be a little late. I know, I can hear the groaning from here. They ARE coming out, there was just some wrangling that had to be done. Now they'll probably be out in June. I checked since Speed Racer stuff is supposed to come out then too, and it's bumped up a bit to August. Let me just say again though - this stuff IS coming out.

Captain Action: THE ORIGINAL SUPER-HERO ACTION FIGURE!  22 Feb 00
Michael Eury has provided an update concerning the release of his highly anticipated book:

CAPTAIN ACTION: THE ORIGINAL SUPER-HERO ACTION FIGURE is now being resolicited through Diamond Comics (call virtually any comics or collectibles shop to place an order), and Amazon.com (www.amazon.com ) is also taking preorders.  The book ships in April 2000 and retails for $29.99.  As a reminder, Studio Chikara, the book's publisher, has offered a special 20% discount to anyone who orders the book directly from the publisher, through yours truly as the go-between.   That's 20% of $29.99 = $23.96 + $4.00 P&H = $27.96.  If interested, please email me privately at euryman@msn.com .  This offer ends 3/25/00.

Editor's Note:  Barnes and Nobles is taking pre orders on this book for $19.96 at the link below:

Captain Action Directional Communicator Scans  20 Feb 00
Allright, its been a while since I added something new to the Captain Action scans page so I figure its about time.  I spent the morning working on this one and it came out pretty nice.  Its the box from the Directional Communicator, one of the six accessory sets that Ideal made for Captain Action.  Just follow the C/A Icon to the right or take this quick link : Directional Communicator

NY Toyfair 2000  17 Feb 00
The latest toy offerings from Playing Mantis, Hasbro, Mattel and more were featured at the Big Apple toy fair this year.  Check out the great coverage of this event over at the Master Collector:  ToyFair 2000

The Johnny Quest Mystery Revealed  16 Feb 00
OK C/A fans here is the word on the Johnny Quest figures, straight from the source (Gwen at PM):

Yes, I can confirm that even if we don't use the Captain Action body form, the JQ figures will be the same scale (1/6). And I also should clarify - just because we're making seperate JQ figures does not mean we will never make JQ outfits for CA and KA. There's definitely a feeling of wanting to take the wait and see approach and see how the JQ stuff and the new CA stuff does. So give it some time and we'll see what happens. I know, the waiting is the hardest part. Anyone care to offer any sayings about how the journey is the best part of getting there sometimes?

Talking about Custom Gloves for Captain Action  16 Feb 00
There have been a couple of inquiries from people who are looking for custom gloves for Captain Action figures, specifically Batman and Captain America.  It turns out that Classic Plastick makes those very things, so we have added their URL to the link page or you can check them out here: Classic Plastick

The Latest from the Johnny Quest Rumor Mill  14 Feb 00
The latest word is that the figures previewed at the Dallas Toy Fair are not costumes for Captain Action, but a separate line of figures which use the same body molds as the Captain Action line.  While it appears they will not be packaged as Captain Action costumes with masks, this does mean that the costumes and accessories will be scaled to work with Captain Action.  Dr Quest has a cool picture here: More Johnny

Johnny Quest for Captain Action?  13 Feb 00
Playing Mantis has previewed what appear to be prototypes of Captain Action costumes from the Johnny Quest cartoon series. Johnny Quest and Hadji for Kid Action, and Race Bannon and Dr.Quest for CA.  Rumors say they are slated for release later this year. Small Blue Planet has some pics:  Johnny Quest

Rachael Turns Two!  10 Feb 00
OK this is a bit off topic but its my niece's second birthday today and I wanted to send her a special Games and Beyond birthday wish.

Vintage Captain Action Flyer  09 Feb 00
There seems to be alot of interest in the flyer that Ideal included in the first issue Captain Action Box, so I have scanned it and added it to the scans page.  Its an interesting piece in that the figures used in the prototypes are clearly GIJoes (look at the hands) and that the masks were drawn on in a few cases.

Dr Evil Lab Set Box Scan  07 Feb 00
I have a scan of the Dr Evil Lab box that I am working on.  Its about 150 DPI so its pretty large.  I haven't finished putting the sides together, but its a start  Dr Evil Lab Set

Update on Lone Ranger and Kid Action  03 Feb 00
Here is the latest news, straight from Gwen at Plaing Mantis:

Well, I checked with Bob (head CA guy) this morning for an update on the blue shirt LR and Kid Action to see if they're on target for release and (sigh of relief!) they pretty much are! Word has it they're on the boat and should be here in 3-4 weeks, then they're off to Diamond. SO, realistically it looks like it will be early March when they really hit the shelves, but there shouldn't be the huge delay like there were with the repacked figures and Phantom and Kabai. So, I hope you all think this is good news like I do, and it looks like things are getting much more on track!

ZEMO returns!  02 Feb 00
Wow, this is just too cool.  We have just gotten our hands on some new pics of an old classic.  Zemo, the lost Zeroid, in blazing blue; and thats not all!  Take the long way or this quick link:  Zemo returns!

Aquaman Scans Updated  01 Feb 00
First of all, how about that bowl?  OK, I was off by a few points in my prediction, but I'd like to see the pros do better.  Anyway, yes, I caught that mistake in the outline for the Aquaman box, I fixed it and updated the scan.  So set your laser printers on stun and fire off a box for your loose Aquaman sets!
