Alas they are from issue number 5, not exactly the brightest spot in the series. Still between Gil Kane's artwork and Wally Woods inks they look pretty good. We have just found out an interesting bit of Ideal Captain Action trivia. Ever come across a vintage "body" dummy that was just the head portion? Here's what one looks like if you haven't: Head Dummy. Well, the man in the know, Mike T, has told us that these were used in some costume boxes in place of the full body dummy. There was a slot in the backing card and the head was stapled to it. Possibly as a cost saving venture (which apparently didn't quite pan out).

Toy Shop subscribers are in for a real treat, the latest issue, dated 6 Oct, features a stunning picture of the vintage Ideal Batgirl on the cover, with a new Hasbro Batman in the background. Inside is an article on "Femmes Fetales" which talks briefly about the history of female action figures. Worth picking up for the cover picture alone! The Cap't Shows up in The Amazing World of Carmine Infantino 11 Sep 00
In the new book "The Amazing World of Carmine Infantino" there are a couple of pages on the work he did for the Playing Mantis Captain Action boxes. The book is published by Vanguard Productions. It looks like KB has a bunch more of those Ming the Merciless figures with the coveted brown Dr Evil in stock, get them while they're hot! Ming At KB. In other news, our set of the retro boxed Green Hornet and Kato costumes has arrived and they are amazing! Playing Mantis has gone above and beyond with this set, in our humble opinion their finest work to date. Look for a complete review with many pics in the next day or two, but in the mean time do whatever you have to do to get your hands on these uniforms!
