The Green Hornet uniform and equipment
was part of the second issue costumes for Captain Action in 1967.
It was only available in a ring box. The set contains a Face
Mask, Hat, Jacket, Scarf, Pants, Socks, Shoes, Gas Pistol, Shoulder Holster,
Signal Watch, Sting Ray, Gas Mask, and Radar Scanner and Phone Adapter.
The body dummy used in this set has the hair painted black, and is the
only set to have any painting on the dummy.

Green Hornet uniform. The most
intricate of all the Ideal sets as it essentially contained an entire conventional
set of clothing, minus a shirt. The Green Hornet has the distinction
of being the only set to include socks. The jacket has two snaps
on the inside with felt buttons on the front. The pockets has black
felt flaps but were non functional. The scarf served in place of
a shirt to cover the areas left exposed by the jacket. The pants
had creases sewn into the front. The pants are labeled but the jacket
is not. The jacket has a gold lining. Overall a very nicely
done set of clothes.

The Green Hornet's face mask is unique
in that it did not cover the entire head. It only covers the eyes
and the lower part of the face while a thin strap goes around the back
of the head to hold it in place. The strap is fragile and easily
broken. It is interesting that Ideal chose this sort of arrangement
since the Lone
Ranger wears a similar mask and Ideal chose to use a full head mask
for that set. The mask looks odd when worn without the hat, as the
top of the Captain's head is a bit small comparatively. Perhaps the
concern centered around the hat...

The Green Hornet's Hat. Black
rubber with green painted band. Designed to fit directly on Captain
Action's head, so it is smaller than other hats, such as the Lone
Ranger's or Steve
Canyon's which are designed to go over a full head mask. Ideal
may have gone with this design to avoid having to make an over sized hat
which could have looked awkward on the fully dressed figure.

The Green Hornet's Shoes and socks.
The Shoes are made of black vinyl, not hard plastic as used in the
boots of the other sets. They are also interchangeable, no
left and right shoes to have to worry about. The Green Hornet is
the only Ideal Captain Action set to have socks.

Shoulder Holster, black rubber with
green painted accents. One strap goes over the shoulder and the other
across the body. Designed to be worn under the jacket.
Holds the gun snugly and accounts for the melts often found on the Gas
Pistol.

 |
Gas Mask. Yellow rubber painted green
and silver. A strangely gaudy color arrangement. Similar, although
not identical to the oxygen mask which came with the
Steve
Canyon set. Interesting that it is cast in a different color
than the other vinyl pieces in the set.

 |
Scarf. Thin white cloth folded
over and worn around the neck and tucked inside the jacket. Provided
in place of a shirt, displays well.

Radar Scanner and Phone Adapter, Black
plastic with silver, red and blue paint. What could be more amazing
than a phone you could carry around with you? How about a TV and
a Radar the size of a brief case? Hey, this was the 60's and these
things were amazingly high tech. Remember how Batman had a phone
in his car? OK, so nowadays no on in their right mind would lug this
monstrosity around, but its still a pretty cool looking accessory.
The handset rests in a cradle on top of the scanner but for some reason
it is not attached to the Scanner by a string or wire. The picture
on the front is of a city by an inlet with an overhanging tree in the foreground.
If anyone knows the significance of the picture I would love to hear it.

 |
Sting Ray. Black plastic with
gold painted accents. Long thin fragile piece with a handle which
is hinged. Very fragile and hard to find complete.
|
 |
Gas Pistol. Black plastic painted
green with silver highlights. A really good looking firearm, more
detailed than the one actually used in the TV series. Often melted
from prolonged contact with the Shoulder Holster, as this one is.
|
 |
Signal Watch. Black plastic
with gold, and silver painted case, and a white painted face with red hands.
According to the signal watch, its 20 to 12. Not sure its that is
noon or midnight. The rarest of the rare to find complete.
The two thin antenna are easily broken, and the small size makes it hard
to find at all.
